My Clinical Work is Grounded in Somatic Awareness and Mindfulness and the Exploration of Attachment Strategies

The services I provide bring together decades of experience

Academic, 12-step, Meditation, Clinical Training and a Healthy Dose of Common Sense and Wisdom.

My skillfulness using somatic practices—from somatic experiencing to neurophysiological and neuroaffective touch—is grounded on somatic awareness, mindfulness and the exploration of adaptive survival strategies.  I approach childhood trauma through the lens of attachment strategies and the NARM model.

Mindfulness

I teach and consult in three areas: complex trauma, somatic therapy and mindfulness practices. I teach mindfulness meditation as a formal practice and integrate it within the context of a wide array of awareness and embodiment exercises. Somatic practices range from supporting the natural impulse for biological completion to the use of physical touch for neurophysiological regulation and attachment repair.

Consultation

I provide consulting related to mindfulness and trauma. Whether it is designing a corporate training or workshop, group or individual consultation, or support related to a workplace or private practice emergency, I can provide training and consultation.

Somatic Therapy is a Comprehensive Approach to Healing

Somatic therapy is not a specified set of techniques. It is an orientation to the whole person that integrates mind, body and emotions. Somatics is a general term that refers to the broadest set of practices that integrate the awareness of our internal sensations, body structure and movement, emotions, thoughts and identities into a unified approach to personal transformation.

The Goal of Trauma Therapy is to Live a Happier Life

We can often resolve current difficulties by working in present-time without exploring memories of past events. Sufficient safety, stability and both the capacity and willingness to endure difficult emotional experiences are necessary before we can fully process traumatic memories. Sometimes our life improves by accepting the past while being committed to living with integrity and congruity with our values.

I use the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy

I’m a level 2 trained PACT therapist. I chose PACT because it is congruent with the fundamentals of trauma therapy, somatic psychology and mindfulness. Safety and security, and presence of mind for both partners, is key. PACT is grounded in contemporary neuroscience. This highlights the physiological functioning of the brain as a biological contribution to the relational dynamics of the couple.

I Lead Therapy Groups for Therapists and the General Public

I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) certified by the International Board for Certification of Group Psychotherapists through the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA). I currently offer two ongoing groups: one for licensed psychotherapists and one for the general public. These are process-oriented psychotherapy groups. Both support personal exploration and a deeper understanding of communication styles and how they affect others.

EMDR Integrates Traumatic Memories into the Past

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that result from disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that EMDR therapy, can lead to a faster healing process than psychotherapy.

Mindfulness Meditation is a Powerful Tool for Personal Transformation

I teach mindfulness meditation, what is often called insight or vipassana meditation. My classes and workshops provide the basic skills and experience required for the development of a lifelong mindfulness practice. My approach to meditation is based on the Buddha’s discourse on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (the Satipatthana Sutta) in which he explains the conditions under which mindfulness arises and how to navigate the hindrances we experience along the way.

I Provide Consultation Services to Individuals, Groups and Organizations

My consultation services for individuals are designed to help with complex trauma cases and the implementation of somatic practices. My services to groups in clinical environments involve targeted didactics and case consultations. In corporate environments, I offer a single introduction to meditation and a multi-week meditation course. I also support human resources to manage complex employee cases involving mental health issues.
